Four powertrains are offered, and which one is standard depends on the trim. All four are backed by GMC's 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, 5-year/100,000-mile on the Duramax diesel.
- 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder: 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque through an 8-speed automatic. Standard on Pro, SLE and Elevation. Rated to tow up to 9,400 lbs when properly equipped.
- 5.3L EcoTec3 V8: 355 hp and 383 lb-ft with a 10-speed automatic and Dynamic Fuel Management. Standard on SLT and Denali.
- 6.2L EcoTec3 V8: 420 hp and 460 lb-ft with the 10-speed. Standard on Denali Ultimate and available on SLT, AT4, AT4X and Denali.
- 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six: 305 hp and 495 lb-ft with the 10-speed. Standard on AT4 and AT4X, available on SLT and up. This is the engine that reaches the 13,300-lb maximum tow rating.
Towing. Properly equipped, the 2026 Sierra 1500 tows up to 13,300 lbs with the Duramax diesel. Fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers are rated up to 9,900 lbs on Double Cab 2WD trucks. GMC recommends moving from a weight-carrying to a weight-distributing hitch once the trailer passes about 7,000 lbs, and tongue weight should sit at 10 to 15 percent of loaded trailer weight.
Payload. Maximum payload runs from 2,230 lbs on Regular Cab standard- and long-bed trucks to 2,040 lbs on the Double Cab standard bed, 2,020 lbs on the Crew Cab short bed and 1,950 lbs on the Crew Cab standard bed.
