Next Chapter for Memphis Truck Shoppers

The 2027 Sierra 1500 arrives a full redesign

GMC's flagship half-ton is on the verge of its biggest change since 2019. For Memphis-area truck shoppers, that means two windows of opportunity. The proven 2026 Sierra is available on our lot today, and the redesigned 2027 arrives soon. Here's everything known, reported, and still to be announced.

Why This Year Matters

A new Sierra 1500 shouldn't catch Memphis drivers off guard.

Every few years, a truck platform gets replaced entirely. The Sierra 1500 launched its current design in 2019, received a visual refresh in 2022, and is now reportedly lining up for a fifth-generation rework arriving as a 2027. That matters if you're cross-shopping now: the 2026 is the last year of a well-sorted, proven truck, and the 2027 will introduce styling, interior, and technology changes most buyers keep for 6-10 years.

This page is built for the Memphis-area shopper who wants the facts without the marketing fog. We separate what GM has officially acknowledged from what has been reported by credible outlets, and we update as announcements are made. When you're ready, Rivard-Royall GMC on Mendenhall Road is a short drive from Germantown, Collierville, and Olive Branch, and our team can walk you through either option.

The short version: if your truck lease ends in the next twelve months, the 2026 is the safer bet. If you can wait and want the latest design cycle, the 2027 is worth watching closely.

Signal vs. Noise

What's actually known about the 2027 Sierra, and what isn't.

We've split the reporting into two buckets so Memphis shoppers can see the difference between reported facts and still-open questions. Sources include GM Authority, Autoblog, CarsDirect, MotorTrend, and Car and Driver. This page is updated as GMC releases official information.

The Lineage

Twenty-eight years of GMC Sierra, boiled down.

The Sierra nameplate has gone through four full generations, each one a meaningful step forward. The 2027 marks the start of the fifth. Context matters when you're making a purchase decision. Here's what the lineup has done, and where it's going.

1999
First Generation

The Sierra nameplate arrives

GMC replaced the longstanding "C/K" series with the Sierra, establishing the brand's professional-grade positioning. The first-generation Denali trim debuted here, setting the premium-pickup template that still defines GMC today.

2007
Second Generation

Stiffer, quieter, more refined

A stiffer frame, coil-over-shock front suspension on 2WD models, and a more refined interior moved the Sierra upmarket. The Sierra Hybrid arrived for 2009, marking the brand's first real electrification effort in a full-size truck.

2014
Third Generation

The EcoTec3 era

A new engine family, chrome-heavy Denali identity, and a 2016 refresh that added an 8-speed automatic to the 6.2L V8. This generation cemented Denali as the aspirational half-ton of its era and made the Sierra a serious cross-shop against the Ford F-150 Platinum.

2019
Fourth Generation (Current)

MultiPro, CarbonPro, Super Cruise

The current Sierra 1500 debuted the MultiPro tailgate, CarbonPro composite bed, a 15-inch head-up display on Denali, and available 3.0L Duramax inline-six diesel. A 2022 mid-cycle refresh added the AT4X off-road trim and brought hands-free Super Cruise driving to the lineup.

The 2026 model year closes out this generation. That means every current Sierra 1500 on our lot at Rivard-Royall represents a fully mature, fully refined version of this platform.
2027
Fifth Generation (Next)

A ground-up rework for the late 2020s

Reports align on a redesigned exterior, reworked interior, and updated technology stack, all arriving for the 2027 model year with production slated to begin in January 2027. Pricing, trim structure, and powertrain details remain unannounced by GMC. Rivard-Royall GMC will update this page the day official information drops.

On Your Radar

Three Sierras, three decisions for Memphis buyers.

Before the 2027 arrives, it's worth mapping out how the lineup stacks up. These are the three Sierra directions a Memphis-area shopper can realistically consider over the next 12-18 months.

Available Now

2026 Sierra 1500

The final year of the fourth-generation Sierra, with every feature the 2022 refresh introduced: MultiPro tailgate, available Super Cruise, and the 3.0L Duramax diesel. Known pricing, established incentives, in-stock at Rivard-Royall.

Best for: shoppers whose lease ends soon, or who value proven reliability over newest-generation design.

Coming 2027

2027 Sierra 1500

The fifth-generation redesign: new sheetmetal, reworked interior, updated tech. Reported production start January 2027. Pricing, trims, and powertrains have not been officially announced.

Best for: shoppers who can wait 12+ months and want to own the first year of a new-generation truck.

Electric Option

Sierra EV

If you're open to electric, GMC's full-size electric truck is a separate path entirely. Different platform, different capability profile, different ownership experience. Worth considering alongside the 2027 decision.

Best for: shoppers who want to move to EV and use their truck for predictable daily duty.

Questions from Memphis Shoppers

Honest answers about the 2027 Sierra transition.

These are the questions we're hearing most from Memphis-area truck shoppers right now. If yours isn't here, call us at 901-881-0179 or send a message.

When will the 2027 Sierra 1500 actually arrive in Memphis?

Production is reported to start in January 2027 at GM's Fort Wayne Assembly plant. Based on how GMC historically staggers dealer allocation from Fort Wayne, the earliest Memphis-area arrivals would typically be 6-10 weeks after production start. That depends on trim mix and GM's regional allocation plans, which have not been confirmed.

Should I buy a 2026 Sierra now or wait for the 2027?

If your current vehicle is paid off or your lease has more than 12 months left, waiting to see the 2027 in person is reasonable. If your lease is ending soon or you need a truck for work, the 2026 is the straightforward choice: known pricing, available incentives, and in-stock at Rivard-Royall. A redesign's first model year also historically carries a slight price premium and less mature incentives. That's not a reason to skip it, but it's a factor in the math.

Is the 2027 Sierra really a full redesign, or just a refresh?

Reporting aligns on a full fifth-generation redesign. The 2022 model year was the mid-cycle refresh of the current fourth generation. The 2027 is a new sheetmetal and interior rework, not another refresh.

Will the 2027 Sierra still offer the Duramax diesel?

GMC has not officially confirmed the 2027 powertrain lineup. Industry reporting suggests the 3.0L Duramax inline-six diesel is expected to continue, along with the 5.3L V8 and 6.2L V8. Hybrid assistance has been speculated but not confirmed by GM.

Can I reserve or pre-order a 2027 Sierra at Rivard-Royall GMC now?

GMC has not opened a retail order bank for the 2027 Sierra 1500. Once it does, Rivard-Royall will be able to submit orders. In the meantime we're maintaining a notification list. Contact us to be added and you'll hear from us the day ordering opens.

How much will the 2027 Sierra 1500 cost?

Pricing has not been announced by GMC. For reference, the 2026 Sierra 1500 lineup starts with the Pro work trim and ends with the Denali Ultimate flagship. We'll update this page the same day 2027 MSRP is published.

Will the 2027 Sierra share its redesign with the next Chevy Silverado?

Yes. The Sierra and Silverado 1500 are built on the same GM T1XX architecture and launch together. Brand-specific styling, interior execution, and trim strategy will differentiate them, especially the Denali and AT4 trims, which define the GMC identity and typically carry unique content that doesn't cross over to Chevy.

Does Rivard-Royall GMC have the current 2026 Sierra in stock?

Yes. We carry a full range of 2026 Sierra 1500 trims including Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. Browse 2026 Sierra 1500 inventory or see the 2026 Sierra model page for full trim details.
